New Look, New Attitude, Same Garrison

by Lord Maul on Thu Feb 21, 2008 5:44 pm

This year the Ohio Garrison has reached a milestone, it is our fifth anniversary and we plan on making 2008 a yearlong celebration. We have some exciting plans and ideas this year. The first thing you'll notice is the website. It has been a long, hard road to find the people we needed to redesign our site, and we appreciate our member's patience with the command staff. Your voices did not fall on deaf ears. We simply wanted the best possible people on our web staff to help make your ideas a reality and it looks like Jim Tornincasa our new GWL, and his support team of Rich Feezle, and Vance Burkitt have, and will continue to do, all of us great service. Jim has done an outstanding job thus far and I can't wait to see what him and the web team are capable of bringing to the OG.
Phase II of our website overhaul will be a complete makeover of our members gallery. This is where you, the member, will be instrumental in terms of giving our web team ideas and feedback on how the member's gallery will look and function. A plan of attack for phase II is in preliminary stages so stay tuned and check our command staff announcements for updates.

You'll also notice that we've voted on and adopted a fifth anniversary logo.

In addition to our normal OG merchandise we will have several different items donning our commemorative logo. Be sure to look at our merchandising forums, as we will soon begin to vote on and offer new and exciting merchandise.

In addition to the website changes, this year we're looking to "take" Marcon back. Marcon has been an annual gathering for many of us over the years. Unfortunately the past couple of years have been lackluster in terms of the convention itself. We hope to change that by making Marcon an event that we can sort of "kick off" our fifth anniversary festivities. It isn't necessarily the size of the convention that makes it great, but being in the company of our OG friends that makes it special. Marcon takes place during the Memorial Day weekend so clear your schedules folks.

We also want to bring back more of the family feeling that we've have always tried to foster. As groups get bigger it makes it easier to sort of lose touch with one another. To help us all grow closer as a group we would love to hold more OG socials, armor parties and other informal events.

DRAGONCON 2K8. For those of you who don't know, the Legion approved us as a garrison at DragonCon five years ago. To celebrate that day we plan on hosting a huge 5th year anniversary celebration during DragonCon in Atlanta. If you plan on attending DragonCon and would like to help plan this event contact Shala (Savage) Poling.

In closing just let me say that each and every one of the members of the OG is an integral part of a much larger machine. Without one single part, the machine doesn't work. We want each and every member to know that this is your garrison.
Every time you make a child smile, each random act of kindness you perform, every time that armor pinches or chaffs remember that you're out there making a difference in other people's lives.
Thank you all.
-The OG command staff.

Want to be Featured on the Front Page?

by darth templar on Mon Feb 18, 2008 10:12 pm

The OG website is currently undergoing a face lift and in an effort to try to enhance the new style and look of the website there is one key element that we want to focus on.

That element is the men and women of the OG.

The OG has some of the BEST costumes in the legion and we really want to make sure all visitors to the website have an opportunity to see the amazingly hard work and talent that goes into our member's costumes.

Remember, the photos have to be large, and lighting is crucial. Don't depend on regular, interior incandescent lightbulbs or the built-in flash. If you have reasonably near pro-quality photos or good outside shots, send 'em in!
